Catalan Independence

Catalan independentism raises its thesis on the principle that the people of Catalonia are a sovereign nation, alluding basically to the interpretation of their history, culture, their own language and Catalan civil law, and the assertion that Catalonia will not reach its maximum cultural, social or economic fullness as long as it is part of Spain. Catalan independentism defends the thesis that Catalonia is a nation oppressed by Spain since its occupation by the Bourbon troops in 1714, and the subsequent suppression of the Catalan institutions and the prohibition of its language in the administration through the Decrees of New Plant promulgated by Felipe V between 1707 and 1716, approved the Decree of New Plant of Catalonia in 1716, since the crown of Aragon to which the county of Catalonia belonged, supported the other candidate for the Spanish throne, the Archduke Charles of Habsburg.
